Description
(SOLD) This 1967 Jaguar Series 1 E-Type roadster has just finished a comprehensive restoration by Jaguar professionals at Classic Showcase, who paid very special attention to all the little details that it's next owner is sure to appreciate; this numbers-matching roadster is believed to have only 36,210 original miles, and was one of the last Series 1s ever produced. The roadster left the Browns Lane factory on March 20, 1967, and several months later, Hanley Kleeman of Indianapolis, Indiana purchased the car new on November 21, 1967. The Kleeman family owned the car for the next 47 years, having the car repainted in the original color in the 1980s, using the car sparingly the entire time. In 2013, the car was purchased from the Kleeman family, and was prepared to go back on the road, spending $10,000 in the process. In April of 2014, the car returned to use - then with a total of about 35,000 miles. The original owner’s manual set with the car’s original warranty endorsed to Hanley Kleeman, service vouchers, operating, maintenance and service handbook, etc. has stayed with the car through its 47 years. Today, this beautiful E-type has benefited from a comprehensive, no expense spared, documented restoration by Jaguar professionals at Classic Showcase. During the restoration process, the car was stripped to metal, painted, wet sand and buffed, a new interior was installed with a new soft top (with the bows restored), all the systems were gone through, and it was fitted with new wheels and tires. Under the hood, the XKE offers great performance including a 6 cylinder engine with triple SU carburetors, and a 4 speed transmission. A pictorial DVD of the restoration services performed by Classic Showcase along with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate verifying authenticity accompany the car. With less than 100 test miles since its restoration, this highly collectible Series 1 E-type is ready for the upcoming 2016 show circuit, or may simply be driven and enjoyed on your favorite road or highway.
History
Launched in 1961 at the international motor show in Geneva, the XKE echoed the sensation of the XK-120, perhaps even more. An astonishing performance package, with amazing speed and handling, the XKE’s’ brand-new 4-wheel independent suspension system was so well conceived, it was used by Jaguar for over thirty years. The Series 1 4.2 is a very user friendly, sporty driver, and one of the most collectable of the E-Types. These are wonderful cars with a 4.2 liter engine with 3SU carburetors and a fully synchronized transmission. Some of the features of this model are covered headlights, toggle switches, full instrumentation with styling and a design that was way ahead of its time with center console, and arm rests. Other features of this Series 1 are its steep windshield and tail lights, which are placed above the bumper line in the rear deck. Similarly, the parking lights are above the front bumper line in the front fenders. In 1964 when the 4.2 was tested, fuel consumption was rated road reported at 22 MPG and a top speed of 140 MPH.
