Description

May 2026 update: Please note there is a pending sale on this E-Type. This 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series I 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe presents an excellent opportunity for a discerning collector or enthusiast seeking a very original and complete example currently undergoing restoration by our team to our Show-Driver level standards. The E-Type retains its matching-numbers 4.2-liter engine, four-speed gearbox, and cylinder head, as verified by its accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. It is also equipped with desirable Series I features, including closed headlights, a louvered bonnet, wraparound chrome bumpers, and 15-inch wire wheels secured by two-eared knock-offs. The interior is being restored in light Tan leather and will feature bucket seats, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a full suite of Smiths instruments, including a 160-mph speedometer and 6,000-rpm tachometer.

The restoration is well underway, with the body having been stripped to bare metal, placed on a rotisserie, metal finished, and was carefully prepared for primer, sealer, paint, and final finishing. The XKE has progressed into the assembly stage, where our team is actively refitting components and systems as the build moves toward completion. Concurrently, our master trimmer has completed the restoration of the seats and door panels, tailored in the correct and proper materials.

Mechanically, the E-Type is being comprehensively restored, including a full engine rebuild to factory specifications and the refurbishment of all major systems, including fuel, electrical, cooling, and hydraulics. Chrome components are being re-plated as needed, and all aspects of the Jaguar are being addressed to ensure proper fit, finish, and function. As with all of our restorations, an mp4 pictorial video presentation documenting the process will accompany the vehicle. Upon completion, this Jaguar will represent a beautifully restored and highly desirable Series I E-Type that is equally suited for driving, enjoyment, and participation in shows!

History

Launched in 1961 at the international motor show in Geneva, the XKE echoed the sensation of the XK-120, perhaps even more. An astonishing performance package, with amazing speed and handling, the XKE’s’ brand-new 4-wheel independent suspension system was so well conceived, it was used by Jaguar for over thirty years. The Series 1 4.2 is a very user friendly, sporty driver, with all-synchro 4-speed gearbox introduced by Jaguar in 1965, and is one of the most collectable of the E-Types. Some of the features of this model are covered headlights, toggle switches, full instrumentation with styling and a design that was way ahead of its time with center console, and arm rests. Other features of this Series 1 are its steep windshield and tail lights, which are placed above the bumper line in the rear deck. Similarly, the parking lights are above the front bumper line in the front fenders. In 1964 when the 4.2 was tested, fuel consumption was rated road reported at 22 MPG, and a top speed of 140 MPH.
