Description
This matching-numbers 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1.5 Roadster is an exciting project that is now undergoing a comprehensive show/driver level rotisserie restoration by our team. Finished in its original Jaguar Dark Blue with a Red interior, the completed restoration will retain its factory-correct appearance, including a Dark Blue soft top and boot cover, 4-speed manual transmission, twin Stromberg carburetors, and wire wheels. Acquired as a partially restored project after the previous owner was unable to complete the build, the Jaguar has already been fully disassembled, with the body currently in primer. As part of our restoration process, the body will be stripped to bare metal, thoroughly evaluated, metal finished, body fitted, and refinished in its original color combination to our exacting standards. Every aspect of the restoration will be approached with the goal of creating an exceptional stock example that faithfully captures the appearance, character, and driving experience of the original E-Type.
Mechanically, the XKE will undergo a comprehensive restoration as well, with the engine, transmission, differential, suspension, steering, braking, cooling, fuel, electrical, and hydraulic systems rebuilt. Components will be restored, with replacement parts utilized where appropriate to ensure proper fit, function, reliability, and longevity. The completed E-Type will then undergo extensive assembly, detailing, road testing, and final sorting to ensure it performs to the highest of standards. On the Inside, the E-Type’s cabin will be restored by our upholstery department using correct materials and craftsmanship, including a beautifully trimmed Red interior, along with a new Dark Blue soft top and matching boot cover.
Though restoration is now underway, there is still time for the future owner to personalize the build with selected performance, comfort, and convenience upgrades. Whether incorporating subtle driving enhancements such as air conditioning or a five-speed transmission, or other driver-focused enhancements, this is a great opportunity to tailor the restoration to your individual preferences while retaining the timeless character of Jaguar's iconic sports car. Please inquire for additional details, and stay tuned for more updates on this Series 1.5 XKE restoration!
History
The Series 1.5 E-Type Jaguar, referring specifically to the 1968 model year vehicles produced for the US and Canadian markets. With respect to right hand drive ("RHD") markets, it appears that RHD markets did not receive the Series 1.5 specification cars throughout the 1968 model year. Rather, RHD markets received a closer continuation of the Series 1, known unofficially as the Series 1.25 (essentially a Series 1 vehicle in every respect, with the exception of open headlights). Although not officially recognized as a distinct series by Jaguar, the Series 1.5 cars are unique as they contain certain features of both the Series 1 and Series 2 cars. The Series 1.5 name has therefore been broadly adopted to categorize these particular vehicles. Approximately 5,621 vehicles were produced within the chassis number range for the Series 1.5 E-Type, all of which were built between August 1967 and July 1968 (The Series 2 was then produced from August 1968).
