Ken Smith’s 1967 Jaguar E-type has recently scored 100 points and took home a first place trophy at the Palos Verdes Concours held at the Botanic Gardens in September of 2010. Congratulations on a well deserved win! Ken Smith is a car collector and a customer of ours. We restored this vehicle for him from start to finish. We have worked very closely with Ken to perfect his Jaguar to the very highest standards. Our combined effort has paid off and we are honored to have been given the opportunity to see the restoration of this Jaguar through to a 100 point victory! This is Ken’s second 100 point win with this E-type, the first being at the April, 2010 Western States Meet in Santa Maria, California. With just one more 100 point score needed, the car is well on its way to being recognized as a National Champion. Ken said that his next show will be Idyllwild, CA in October, 2010.

David Levy has recently achieved National Champion status with his 1962 Jaguar E-type Coupe! With the determination and hard work of both David and Classic Showcase he was able to score three 100’s this year! Congratulations David! His next large event will be the 2011 Challenge Championship in Dublin, Ohio. We look forward to hearing of many more success stories of this fabulous early E-type.

San Diego Jaguar Club's 46th Annual Concours d'Elegance was held Sunday, July 18 at beautiful Spanish Landing Park overlooking San Diego Harbor. There were 55 Jaguars on the field and quite a few new members in competition this year which is very refreshing.

It was a beautiful day and a beautiful setting for the Jaguar Concours on the lawn at the Botanic Gardens of Palos Verdes. There was a nice representation of Jaguars being shown. From the San Diego Jaguar Club, Ken Smith showed his 67 XKE OTS and scored 100 points and took home a first place award for E-types. Jack Rabell also took first place with his 1954 XK120 FHC. Tom Krefetz took first place with his 1959 XK150S FHC and first place with his 1961 Mark 2 Sedan. Richard Darnell showed his 1936/1937 SS Swallow and it was a magnificent car to see. He took home a first place award as well. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this a successful and highly enjoyable event. Thank you to the Jaguar Owner’s Club who proved to be very welcoming and hospitable hosts that ensured a great time was had by all in attendance. We are looking forward to attending again next year.

Restoration Finish

1966 Jaguar XKE
Series I 4.2 OTS

Classic Showcase has recently completed the process of restoring this 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I 4.2 OTS to a Show/Driver level. Included in the restoration process the vehicle was stripped to bare metal, placed on a rotisserie, metal finished, leaded, all body parts and chrome were fitted to the car, prepared for primer, sealer, paint, base, clear, color sanded and buffed to a fabulous finish. All systems were gone through and the engine was rebuilt back to factory specifications. The transmission, clutch system and hydraulic system were restored and the car received all new rubber. All brite work has been re-plated. The car has received a complete new custom tailored and fit interior in the correct materials by our upholstery department. A DVD of the restoration process will accompany the vehicle. This Jaguar is a great example to drive, enjoy and compete in shows.

1967 Jaguar XKE
Series I 4.2 OTS

This 1967 Jaguar XKE Series I Roadster is a wonderful car that has completed a comprehensive restoration by Classic Showcase to a Show/Driver level. This is an original survivor E-type with only 36k documented original miles. This was proven by the condition of the components when the vehicle was disassembled. The restoration of this vehicle to a Show/Driver level included the following: The vehicle was fully disassembled and photographed. Body stripped to bare metal, metal worked the body, doors, bonnet and boot, then fitted to the body, epoxy sealed and painted, color sanded and buffed to perfection. It received new rubber, seals, grommets and gaskets, trim and bright work replaced or re-plated. A new proper interior including padding, carpet, panels, dash and leather seats were custom fitted and installed. The top bows were restored and custom fitted with a new convertible top. The engine was re-built to factory specifications matching and calibrated with new pistons as well as the transmission. This vehicle has recently been placed with a new owner. We hope they get as much enjoyment and excitement out of this Jaguar as we did throughout its restoration.

1961 Jaguar Mark II
3.8 Sedan

This 1961 Jaguar Mark II 3.8 Sedan is a wonderful car that has recently completed a comprehensive restoration by Classic Showcase to a Show/Driver level, no expense being spared. This Mark II Sedan is complete with books and records. It is matching numbers and comes with a Heritage Certificate of Authenticity. This restoration included the following: The vehicle was fully disassembled and photographed. Body stripped to bare metal, metal worked the body, doors, bonnet and boot, then fitted to the body, epoxy sealed and painted, color sanded and buffed to perfection. It received new rubber, seals, grommets and gaskets, trim and bright work replaced or re-plated. A new proper interior including padding, carpet, panels, dash and leather seats were custom fitted and installed. The engine was re-built to factory specifications matching and calibrated. It is rare with its power steering and period correct AC that have also been restored. Sound detuning has also been installed to insulate against heat and noise.

This Jaguar is currently undergoing a comprehensive and fully documented restoration to a Show/ Driver level by Classic Showcase. It is a numbers matching example with California black plates and comes with a Heritage Certificate of Authenticity. It will be restored in its original color combination of Opalescent Light Blue with Dark Blue interior and a Dark Blue cloth convertible top. The restoration of this vehicle to a Show/Driver level will include the following: Fully disassemble and document the vehicle. Body stripped to bare metal, metal work the body, fit all body parts and chrome, seal, primer, paint base coat, clear coat, color sand and buff all body panels individually off the car to perfection. New rubber, seals, grommets and gaskets, all trim and bright work will be replaced or re-plated. A new proper interior will be custom made, fit and installed and will include leather sport seats and original wood steering wheel. The engine and transmission will be completely rebuilt, rebuilt carburetor, restored radiator, gas tank, new exhaust system will be fabricated and installed. All mechanical components will be gone through and brought back to exact factory specifications. Service, repair or replace hydraulic system and suspension. The chassis will be restored and other parts restored and refinished as needed. Upon completion of this restoration this will be an ideal example for the Jaguar collector to add to their collection, drive, enjoy and compete in their favorite Concours.

Meadowbrook Auction 2010

Meadowbrook Auction 2010: 85 of 99 cars sold, 85.9%, $10,173,850 total and 8 cars over their high estimates. The total was helped by having fifteen high value cars from the estate of John O’Quinn. I think there were more, a lot more, O’Quinn cars which were cataloged as “From an Important Private Collection”, but RM is being circumspect about that. The conundrum of the sale was the result achieved by the 1953 Chrysler “Thomas Special” which exceeded its $500,000 top estimate by 57%, a staggering $285,000 more on the successful hammer bid. Monterey Auctions Total $172 million

This year’s festivities at Pebble Beach and Monterey were remarkable and unforgettable as usual. There was an incredible array of world-class collector cars at auction and plenty more to entertain the eyes while driving through town. The amount of people on the Peninsula was staggering. People from all over the world gathered for all sorts of social festivities, auctions, Concourse, meetings, etc. The atmosphere was electric and busy. Every Hotel/Motel room was sold out for miles around. There was absolutely no sign of an economy problem there. The auction market was good. We experienced standing room only in the auctions and excitement levels were high. All of the auctions sold a very high percentage. RM Auctions and Gooding & Co had some of the rarest vehicles in the world offered for sale, yielding incredible results for both auction houses.

RM's annual "Sports & Classics of Monterey" Auction took place August 12-14, with 209 of 224 lots selling for a final total of $66,886,000. The 1958 Ferrari 250 TR racer, perhaps the most anticipated car of the weekend, crossed the block on Saturday night, but after much interest, it failed to sell at $10.7m. Across town, Gooding & Company's annual Pebble Beach auction, held August 14-15, sold 105 of 135 lots for $64,564,750. A 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder Competizione brought $7.3m, making it the highest sale of the weekend. Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

This year's Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion was actually the first one ever run, as there was a name change to go along with last year's change in management. The former Historics are now the Reunion, but name change aside, the event was still the same old week of wheel-to-wheel racing action. Maintaining Your Classic for the Winter Season

Don't let the winter months cause unnecessary damage to your classic. If you plan to store your classic this winter, follow these simple precautions to keep your baby safe and happy.
1. Drain the petrol. If you do not, then add a few drops of additive so your gasoline in the tank will not break down or go bad and cause problems to the carburetors or fuel pump. Marvell Mystery Oil is an amazing product and you'll find it works wonders. To add oil to the gas, put a small amount into the cylinders.

2. Disconnect the battery. If it is very cold, remove the battery completely and place on a trickle charger.

3. Place your vehicle on jack stands. This will save your tires from getting a flat spot from sitting. If you don't have access to a stand then slightly over inflate the tires to compensate for the amount of time they won't be in use.

4. Make sure the car has plenty of anti-freeze.

5. Keep your classic in a dry environment; if possible a climate controlled one. Never store a car on the dirt. When wet it can cause rust. Always try to park your car on the pavement.

6. Finally, give her one last polish, put a car cover on, say your goodbye, and put her away until you are ready to take the scenic route again.
