2010 JCNA Annual General Meeting
March 26th - 27th - Indianapolis, IN

By Candy Williams
Publicity Chair
Indianapolis, Indiana is known for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Indianapolis Colts, NBA’s Indiana Pacers – and the 2010 AGM.
On March 26-27, 2010, AGM delegates and their families will head to this Midwestern city and a fun weekend hosted by Jaguar Association of Greater Indiana (JAGIN). Cliff Burk and his hard-working committee promise a good time will be had by all.
The AGM host hotel, the Crown Plaza at Union Station, is historic in itself. Located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, the Romanesque revival-style hotel features 273 guestrooms and is housed in America’s first Union Station. The railroad station, built in 1888, served passengers from four local railroad companies and was one of the busiest transfer points in the country.
Standard room rate for the AGM will be $109 per night plus tax and possible daily parking fees for those who drive. The number of rooms is limited, so early registration is advised.
Following the business meeting and one or more technical sessions, the awards banquet will be held that evening in the Illinois Room. Top-ranked participants in rally, slalom and concours competition during 2009 will receive their awards, and winning club newsletter articles, photos and editors will be honored.
Plans are still being made by the AGM committee for possible side trips, a silent auction fundraiser and more. More details, along with an application, will be released as they are made available.
Make plans now to attend the 2010 AGM in Indianapolis!

The next Western States Meet will be held in Santa Maria, California April 26-30, 2010, hosted by our Jaguar Owners Club. Santa Maria is in the heart of California’s Central coast wine country, with easy access from the north, south, and east. It is known as California’s Sweet Spot for its wonderful strawberries. Headquarters will be the historic Santa Maria Inn, where Hollywood stars would stay on their way to Hearst Castle.
.
The Western States meet is held every other year, and hosted by one of the 17 clubs from the Northwest and Southwest JCNA regions. In 2008, it was hosted by the Rocky Mountain Jaguar Club and was held in Grand Junction, CO. The Western States meet is open to all JCNA members.
On Tuesday, the 27th, we will hold a JCNA-sanctioned concours at the city’s Waller Park, with the awards dinner that evening. On Wednesday, the 28th, we will rally or tour north to Hearst Castle. The route will take us through quaint Morro Bay and Cambria. After lunch, we have tour times reserved at Hearst Castle. After the tour you will have some further time to explore areas such as San Luis Obispo. That evening, enjoy dinner at the Pelican Inn on Pismo Beach as the sun sets on the Pacific.
We will slalom away Thursday morning at the Santa Maria Fairgrounds near the Santa Maria Inn. Box lunches will be provided for everyone to enjoy at your location of choice. The afternoon will be devoted to a drive through the central coast wine country; as seen in the movie Sideways. Storm Caused Damage to Many Cars
at Russo & Steele Auction
Devastating weather, gales strong enough to rip auction tents from their moorings, caused damage to hundreds of cars at the Russo and Steele auction site in Scottsdale. Two huge tents were blown over on Thursday, Jan. 21, the first day of their four-day event. One of the tents actually landed on the adjacent highway, snarling traffic for several hours. Heavy tent poles and debris battered some vehicles, while others were harmed by exposure to the rains. Initial estimates of the damage topped $1 million. Auction proceedings were postponed for cleanup until Sunday, when an abbreviated lineup began to cross the block. Needless to say, the disaster hurt Russo and Steele's numbers, which stood at around $6.88 million through the end of Sunday. Hagerty's Cars

David Richards Asked:
- I have a 1950 Plymouth 6Cyl 218 engine that I need a new oil filter for. Where can I find this part?
Fresno, CA
|
Tom Says:
You can find this item at an automotive
performance and custom store, online at places like Jegs, or Summit, or even on Ebay. Also search your local Classic Auto Club for resources.
|
| |
Bernard Smith Asks:
Pheonix, Arizona |
Tom Says:
Hiring an appraiser to look at a vehicle is a great investment that can save you thousands of dollars. Depending on the experience of the appraiser, you can receive a lot of details on the car you are trying to purchase.
|
|
| Robert Walker Asks :
South Dakota |
Tom Says:
Hi Robert. A new 5.3 L 12-cylinder Jaguar V12 engine was introduced, with upgraded brakes and standard power steering.
|
| |
Roy Weber Asks:
- I have seen vehicles listed as a “re-creation”. What does that mean, and how can I tell if a car I want to purchase is authentic or a re-creation?
Oceanside, California |
|
Tom Says:
A re-creation is a replica of an original. To custom re-create an existing vehicle you must obtain a special permit through the state. There are only about 300 of these available at the start of each year and a separate permit must be obtained for each vehicle created. The vehicle will not be titled or registered as the year it is re-creating. Taking a close look at any re-creation vehicle title you will notice that the DMV imposes “SCI” and/or “0000” instead of the year next to the Vehicle Identification Number, signifying that it is a Special Construction vehicle and not an authentic original.

Classic Car enthusiasts will gather together again this year in Geneva, Illinois to view a beautiful collection of antique, classic and modern automobiles. Participants from all over the Country will display their prized automobiles on Third street, hoping to be awarded one of the coveted "Benz" Trophies. For 2010 Cadillac-LaSalle will be our Feature Marque. Third Street is the heart of Geneva's charming downtown shopping district lined with shops, restaurants, parks and historical buildings. This event is open to the public at no cost making this a wonderful family event with something for everyone to enjoy and marvel. The Geneva Concours d’Elegance is your only opportunity in the area to view this fantastic collection of award-winning, unique and rare automobiles. - Make sure all of your car's vitals are good. Check fluids and air pressure, read instruments properly to make sure they are all operating well.
For maximum efficiency, make sure the timing of the engine and calibration of the carburetors are good.
The gasoline used in a car is important. Use a high quality gas to prevent any dieseling effect. If you have a pinging effect, the problem could be your timing or carburetion. You may need to use an octane booster if you drive a car with a performance operating engine.
Shine the car and buff it to perfection. We like the Maguire and 3M polishes, as they are user friendly. Also try the products from Griot's. Take your time when detailing your car. It can be a fun and relaxing experience.
Finally, plan for lots of car events and activities. Take your favorite companion on a day trip... oh, and take a friend too.
