Question 01: I've noticed the term "Blue Chip Investment" is used when discussing certain vehicles on your website, as well as on other Classic Car related publications...What does it mean?

Tom's Answer: In the car collector world, it means a good investment grade collectible car. Blue chip products are known to weather downturns and be profitable in the face of adverse economic conditions, which helps to contribute to their long record of stable and reliable growth.

Question 02: I have been following the rise of the Jaguar XKEs for the last few years. I do not know much about them. How do you recommend I get started?

Tom's Answer: We recommend you get a few books to explain the differences in the many series and do some research into what you are thinking you would like to get. Then look online at the reputable forums related to Jaguars, as there are very many forums dedicated to the passionate Jaguar lover. They can provide you with a plethora of history, interesting facts, and helpful hints to keep your Jaguar running and driving well. You can find answers to your questions, and even some schematics and helpful advice when you get stuck on an issue. We highly suggest that you join your local Jaguar club through the JCNA and attend local events, shows and concours’. The people are great, and building friendships based on a common love for the Jaguar hobby is very rewarding and informative.

Question 03: Why are some classic car marques going up in value greater than others?

Tom's Answer: Classic cars have hot and cool spells, and become popular from the media (editorials, printed articles, television car programs, car shows and car clubs.)  This publicity creates a stimulation in the market and thus the interest in certain cars gets the ball rolling.  If the vehicle is part of a limited production that was of a low numbers produced, then the value would be higher on that kind of vehicle than if it was a higher production run vehicle.

Question 04: A friend of mine has a fully restored Series 1 E-Type that was not restored by Classic Showcase, but has quite a number of issues which are preventing him from enjoying his Jaguar...What can he do?

Tom's Answer: These cars are very particular, and often need to be setup for driving after they undergo a restoration. It normally takes about 300 miles or more to sort them out after restoration. You can recommend taking your car to a local experienced Jaguar shop, or you may ship your car to us where it can be evaluated by our master technicians who are well versed in the multitude of functions found in these cars.

Question 05: I was wondering how you determine the value of a classic car when you are trying to buy or sell...

Tom's Answer:
We use "CPI" which is published by Black Book. It is an incredible, informative price guide and reference, and we highly recommend it!

6 Ways To Save An Endangered Classic Car

We've compiled a short list of 6 tips that enthusiasts can take to ensure classic cars are preserved for future generations.

With so many once popular models disappearing from roads in the last decade, many formerly popular models from numerous classic marques now number in the low hundreds, and are continuing to decline. We encourage the classic car community and those new to classic car ownership to help save these cars.

But how can classic car enthusiasts go about buying, owning and saving one of these now rare cars?

1. Buy one of these cars! Many of these cars are relatively affordable in comparison to more exotic classics. There’s a wealth of buying options out there, whether buying locally, at auction, buying privately, online or from a dealer but whatever option you go for buy the best you can afford and check the history file.

2. Join a car club. Car clubs such as the JCNA are a great way to meet like-minded classic car fans, show off your pride and joy and even get discounts on parts and accessories.

3. Store the car correctly. It can’t be ignored, classic cars can be high maintenance and fragile items. However, given correct care and attention they can and should be easy to live with. The best place to leave a car is a dry, airy barn. Wood or brick garages are preferable to pre-cast concrete units, which tend to “sweat” in very cold conditions. One way to avoid the damp problem is to use an inflatable plastic tent, using fans to keep air moving inside.

4. Use marque and model specialists. When sourcing new parts, repairing or restoring a car, servicing and other maintenance try to use marque and model specialists who will be able to give you expert support, particularly on rarer models.

5. Use it. Classic cars are there to be enjoyed so get out and drive it! Seeing these cars out on the road is fantastic way to promote them. Equally if you’re driving it regularly you’re more likely to keep it in a roadworthy state.

6. Insure the car with a reputable Classic Car-centric Insurance company that understands the siginificance and importance of these vehicles.
