MECUM in PHOENIX, AZ

State Farm Stadium
March 14-17, 2019

Mecum, the only major American collector car auction company that doesn’t participate in the Arizona Auction Week, wasn’t there again in January of this year. Arizona Auction Week doesn’t work for Mecum because of its long-running January sale in Kissimmee, Florida, where it offers as many as 3,000 vehicles over the course of 11 days. They did reveal, during the televised coverage of its Las Vegas auction, that it was staging an auction in Arizona on March 15-16 at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale. There had been such an overwhelming response to the announcement that instead of a two-day, 600-car auction, the company needed to expand to a three-day, Thursday-through-Saturday event, with a docket featuring as many as 1,100+ vehicles.

For its first-ever auction at Phoenix-Glendale AZ, Mecum added 100 motorcycles to its roster of 1,100+ cars. The March 14-17th auction was televised on NBCSN and was interesting to see how the mix of four and two wheels affected the motorcycle prices, after their blockbuster, record-breaking all-motorcycle auction in Las Vegas this past January. The featured lots included the mixed collection of Buddy Stubbs and the all-Triumph focus of the Hamilton collection, which is consistently high quality.
