QUESTION: Where can I get Jaguar books, and Jaguar Parts and Service Manuals?

• ANSWER: Check out JCNA’s website, as they have a great shop where you can find most of the ones you are looking for, and if they are out of stock there is always online sources such as Hemmings.

QUESTION: What does "OEM" mean? (Usually known as “New Old Stock”)

• ANSWER:
"OEM" stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. The OEM is the company that supplied the part when the car was built. In some cases, more than one company supplied the same part, so they would both be OEM. In most cases, OEM parts are superior to other parts. But not always

QUESTION:
Do I have to spend extra money on 'V' rated tires for my Jaguar? They are rated at 148 mph and I'm not going to drive that fast.

• ANSWER: No, you most likely aren’t going to, but, the "V" rated tires are necessary to provide the stability you need to carry a fully-loaded 4,000 pound car down the highway at a high rate of speed. Lower-rated tires have a more flexible carcass, and will tend to generate vibration and noise more readily than a "V" rated tire will, and will fail more often under similar operating conditions. Jaguar recommends a specific tire rating based on a ratio of speed and vehicle weight, and ignoring their recommendation has caused more than one Jaguar owner some discomfort.  "V" rated tires are not necessarily more expensive, either. The Michelin MXV4, which is an excellent "V" rated tire, can usually be found fairly inexpensive. They are priced competitively with good-quality "S" rated tires. Our recommendation is not to be lured by lower priced tires, as the price or performance tradeoff just doesn't work. These tires are better made and are safer, even at lower speeds..

QUESTION: Can you use regular gas in your Jaguar?

• ANSWER: We recommend using 91 octane in all Jaguar Cars. There is a chance you could use regular gas in a classic Jaguar, but if you hear pinging noises coming from the engine, then you will have to switch to 91 octane. In newer Jaguars, you have to use 91 octane gas. The regular gas could potentially damage the o2 sensor and cause the fuel/air mixture which is controlled by the car's computer to become erratic, as it tries to compensate to a lower fuel grade which requires a higher temperature to burn. So just spend the extra money on fuel and save on costly repairs.

QUESTION: Who owns Jaguar Cars now?

• ANSWER: Jaguar Cars is a brand of Jaguar Land Rover, a British multinational car manufacturer headquartered in Whitley, Coventry, England, owned by India's Tata Motors since 2008.

QUESTION: I have two classic cars, a 1967 Porsche 911 Targa, and a Mercedes Benz 280 SL, and I wanted to see the different colors available with the formulas. Can you tell me where I can get a current paint code?

• ANSWER: For a fairly complete listing of color combinations available, go to the color library on TCP Global’s website for more direction:

http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary

QUESTION: I was wondering how you determine the value of a classic car when you are trying to buy or sell...

• ANSWER:
We use "CPI" which is published by Black Book. It is an incredible, informative price guide and reference, and we highly recommend it!

Interesting European Car Facts

In terms of status, European cars are considered to be the most popular around the world. Some of the most fantastic car companies are located throughout Europe, inluding England, Germany, and Italy. Cars like Jaguar, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, and Ferrari make up the dreams of car lovers all over the world. However, when it comes to speed and style, Italian cars are thought to be some of the fastest and stylish of them all. Jaguar, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo and Maserati produce some of the fastest, and most beautiful looking cars in the world!

The most expensive cars in the world are also dominated by the European brands. The most expensive cars ever made include the following:

  • Bugatti Veyron –$1,192,057
  • Ferrari Enzo –$1,000,000
  • Pagani Zonda –$741,000
  • SSC Ultimate Aero –$654,400
  • LeBlanc Mirabeau –$645,084
  • Koenigsegg CCX –$600,910
  • Porsche Carrera GT –$484,000
  • Mercedes SLR McLaren –$455,500
  • Maybach 62 –$385,250

Recently, the collector car market has been reaching new highs with big dollar sales. Here are some of the most expensive cars bought at auction:

  • A 1954 Mercedes-Benz race car sold for a record $30 million at an auction in England on July 12, 2013. While collectible cars have been sold privately for more, this is the highest price ever paid for a car at a public auction.
  • A 1967 Ferrari NART Spyder set a $27.5 million dollar record at RM auctions in 2013.
  • 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa Prototype which sold at an auction in California in 2011 for $16.4 million.
  • A 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, sold in a 2011 auction hosted by Gooding & Company at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center for over $16 million dollars.
  • The 1904 Rolls-Royce 10 hp Two-Seater is currently listed on the Guinness World Records as the most expensive veteran car to be sold, at the price of $7,254,290, on a Bonham’s auction held at Olympia in London on December 3, 2007.

Winter is without a doubt the hardest season of the year on your classic car. If you are like me, you try to take care of all the routine maintenance before the cold weather hits and hope it all holds together until Spring arrives. Well, spring is almost here and there are a number of things the shade tree mechanic will want to be doing the very instant the snows clear away, maintenance on the prized car. It needs it very badly by now. For the last three to four months your car hasn't had an oil change, or chassis lubrication or a number of other things that badly need doing.
  • Tires—tend to your tires. By rotating them seasonally, you extend the life of the set. As the weather gets warmer and temperatures increase, tire pressure changes. Under-inflated tires reduce a vehicle's fuel efficiency by an average of 3.3 percent, according to www.fueleconomy.gov. Tires should be checked monthly to make sure that they are inflated to manufacturers' recommendations, which can typically be found on the vehicle door placard or in the glove box. Be sure to avoid over-inflating the tires, as this can lead to premature or irregular tire wear.
  • Blades—wiper blades take a severe beating. Early spring is a good time to check and replace them.
  • Underbody— clean your vehicle's underbody. There's no magic cleaning solution that will get rid of the corrosive salt build-up for those who live in heavy winter urban areas. Make sure you bring the car to the car wash shop and get the entire body, along with undercarriage, systematically washed and the sand and salt fully removed.
  • Fluids—check all automotive fluids and top off as necessary. Winter driving conditions require your engine to work harder and deplete fluid levels faster. Cold temperatures can wreak havoc on an engine if it is not cared for properly, as cold startups are among the most severe conditions that engines undergo. Drivers need to protect their vehicles with a quality motor oil to endure the varying temperatures as most of the country changes from cooler to warmer temperatures. The changing of seasons serves as an excellent reminder of the importance of using high quality motor oils in your engine.

  • Brakes—examine your brakes. Like wipers, brakes take on a bigger role during wintertime and should be checked to ensure they've survived.

  • Air filters tend to become heavy due to pollen affecting the overall output of the vehicle. You should immediately replace the air filters if you found them to be inappropriate in order to enhance the performance of your car. You should remove dirt, debris and leaves from the cowl screen and other crevices. Leaves that are present in the cowl screen can break producing residue that can block the evaporator drain. Dry wiping your car with the paper towel or similar paper item will scrape the clear coat. Make sure to utilize mild lather and water to clean the affected region. Spring time can be a good time to take proper care of your vehicle. If you reside in the snow region of our nation the primary thing to do is to make sure that sand and salt is away from your car.

  • The next thing you must do is to have a good coat of wax to be applied to assist in protecting your car from the strong UV sunrays. Your car must be vacuumed to eliminate sand and salt that might have entered. You should also check the hood.

  • Confirm all the fluids involving the coolant mechanism and the AC before those humid and hot days arrive. Running the AC system once in a while will certainly keep it operational when you require it.

  • If pot holes are a problem in your region you must have the suspension examined to make sure there are no damaged components from getting jumped. Worn suspension components can easily lead to tire and other parts hastily wearing and alignment hassles. A vehicle having bad alignment can ultimately lead to poor driving, handling and hamper your cars fuel mileage.
