dinner at the Scottish-style Pub and Grill within the vicinity of the hotel. Friday morning’s events focus
on the history of the legendary E-Type via a seminar explaining the details and development of the
timeless beauty. The experience of the Cruise-in is truly one to remember as Friday comes to a close
and the events of Saturday will be the Classic Auto Show and JCNA’s Concours d’Elegance. Immediately

2011 JCNA Annual General Meeting
March 24th - 27th | Richmond, VA
With this being such a special year for the E-type, much excitement surrounded this year’s Annual
General Meeting (AGM) hosted by the Virginia Jaguar Club (VJC) at the prestigious Wyndham Virginia
Crossing Hotel and Golf Resort in Richmond, Virginia. Legendary Jaguar Cars chief test driver, Norman
Dewis, was invited as an honored guest and the VJC organized a fabulous event that they rightfully
named the XKExperience to coincide with the AGM.
The XKExperience encompassed special seminars, guest speakers, Jaguar displays and much more.
The hope was to break a record for the most E-types in one place in the United States, but due to dire
weather conditions, many of the expected 60 Jaguars unfortunately could not make the journey.
For more information and photos about this event, please visit www.xkexperience.com. The VJC has put
together a wonderful website showcasing the entire experience.

2011 Jaguar Club Mexico Gran Concourso Internacional de Elegancia
April 2 - 3, 2011
The Jaguar Club of Mexico, once again, did not disappoint with this year’s annual Gran Concourso
Internacional de Elegancia which was a huge success! With over 450 cars of different marks and models
this Concours remains the largest Car event in the Country and was held at Las Caballerizas in Dos Rios,
Huixquilucan. Las Caballerizas, about a 45 minute drive from Mexico City, yields a spectacular backdrop
of pine trees and mountains that highlight the beauty and magnificent attention to detail of the various
marks in attendance. It was also a very special event for Club Jaguar of Mexico considering it was the
25th Anniversary of the Gran Concourso Internacional de Elegancia and also the 50th Anniversary of the
E-type. Much respect was paid to Jaguar with a memorable, big screen production showing the birth
of the E-type and a stunning display showcasing the iconic beauty, performance and specifications of
the E-type. A restored engine, transmission, rear end and monocoque body were all on display. Israel
Lejtman’s (Club Jaguar Mexico member) magnificent 1961 outside bonnet latch E-type, that he has
owned and driven since new was featured on display and Enrique Vila’s (SC JCNA Regional Director and
past President of Club Jaguar Mexico) spectacular E-type that won this year’s best of show and first
place in the European Sports Car division was also featured on display for everyone’s enjoyment.
People and different marks come from all over the Southern hemisphere to be a part of this prestigious
event. The Gran Concourso, controlled and owned by Club Jaguar Mexico, is the most well attended
and largest car event in the Country and with good reason. The displays are magnificent, the weather is
beautiful, the wonderful smell of fantastic food fills the air, the live music adds magic to the atmosphere,
the people are beautiful in mind and spirit and even the workers have fun.
If you have never attended this special Concourso, we highly recommend that you mark your calendars
for 2012!

2011 JCNA Muckenthaler
May 15, 2011 | Muckenthaler Cultural Center
Despite the questionable weather, Jaguars and many other classic European and domestic makes and
models draped across the park lawn at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center Sunday, May 15th in a charity
event to help support ongoing art programs for our rising generation in the Fullerton, California area.
This year was especially important for the Jaguar community and Los Angeles Jaguar Club, as the Jaguar
XKE was celebrated during the JOC hosted Concours for its 50th Anniversary and was the featured mark
at this event.
Ken and Anne Smith once again swept the competition with their silver 1967 Jaguar XKE Roadster
holding a 100 point score! Following close behind was first time Jaguar owner and Concours participant,
Stan Elman with his triple black 1966 Jaguar XKE Roadster with a 99.96 point score! First time Concours
participant Stephen Chase and his girlfriend Carrell, showed his beautiful red 1967 Jaguar XKE Roadster
and scored very well also.
It is great to see JCNA “new comers” contending well in Champion Class.
Janet Klein and the Parlour Boys provided upbeat, flapper era music, adding to the nostalgic feeling of
the Concours.
The event also had the pleasure of hosting an appearance by the original Batmobile and
original actor that played Robin in the Batman series. This was definitely a wonderful treat and crowd
pleaser.
Over all, the Concours was a great success and had a wonderful selection of cars. If you have not
attended this spectacular event, be sure to mark your calendars for next year: you will not be
disappointed!
50th Anniversary of the E-type and Concours at the Blackhawk Museum
June 10-11, 2011 | Danville, California
This year the Jaguar Club of San Francisco (JAG) hosted their annual Concours at the Blackhawk Museum
and took this wonderful opportunity to host a 50th Anniversary Celebration for the E-type as well.
The
Blackhawk Museum currently houses ninety exceptional classic cars and set a very fitting atmosphere
for the iconic beauty of the E-type. Many friends and collectors from across the Nation took this unique
opportunity to gather together and enjoy the beautiful California summer weather.
The celebration started Friday, June 10th with a welcoming reception.
The next morning participants
were invited to drive through northern California’s world famous wine country and enjoy a brunch
together. Saturday night’s festivities entailed a banquet in the Blackhawk Museum and the legendary
Concours followed the next day on Sunday. The events at the Blackhawk Museum were unique and the
celebration of the Jaguar E-Type will certainly be an experience to remember.

Gary Lenty Asks:
- If I want to show my XKE Series I, will upgrading the transmission to a 5 speed be detrimental?
From: Georgia
|
Tom Says:
If you want a factory correct car and are interested in showing your XKE at a champion level, these upgrades
would not be a good choice as it will detract from the originality of the vehicle. However, 5 speed transmissions
are an excellent choice if you want enhanced driving performance and better dependability without over revving
the engine in higher gears.
Another great improvement to think about would be to upgrade the radiator to
aluminum and install an auxiliary fan. These improvements coinciding with the transmission will give you the
best drivability in an E-type. This is a personal choice and usually will not depreciate your investment. I base my
thoughts about the vehicle depreciation off of the fact that many people today are asking for this specific upgrade
to be included in the restoration of their Jaguar. |
| |
Chris Skye Asks:
- Tom, what are your recommendations for my exhaust manifolds on my E-type? Should I go with porcelain or heat
treated?
From: Denver, Colorado |
Tom Says:
This is really a personal preference. Porcelain manifolds are factory correct for the car but have yet to be proven
to last aesthetically and need to be corrected every few years.
Heat treated manifolds have proven to last
much longer aesthetically but are not factory correct. Both manifold choices have the same durability and will
mechanically perform well. The difference is strictly the look of the manifold finish. Another option, would be to
keep two manifolds; one for showing the Jaguar and one for driving.
|
|
| Saul Fuentes Asks:
From: Washington |
Tom Says:
If it will be just for coverage in the garage, then a light cotton or flannel cover is fine. However if you own a
roadster with a cloth top, I do not recommend flannel because it will get lint on the top, which we recommend you
keep up when not driven to keep the back window wrinkle free.
I do not recommend outside storage but if it is a
cover for water and other elements outside, then you need a really durable heavy cover but those can be bulky
and cumbersome for travel.

Maintaining Your Classic for the Summer Season
|
|
Before starting your Summer journeys in your classic car, do a vehicle inspection and check-up before you put it on the highway. Make sure to check the following:
- Look under the car on the ground to check for any fluids that may have leaked.
-
Check and change fluids as needed.
-
Check gasoline. If old, drain and replace.
-
Charge battery, check or replace as needed.
-
Check air pressure on all tires, don't forget the spare.
-
Check to make sure that bolts and all hardware and suspension points are tight.
-
Check radiator anti-freeze level and note the color of the fluid. It should be a bright green. If not, it may need flushing and changing.
-
Check engine performance for possible need of a tune up,
carburetor and timing adjustment.
-
If there are any noises or low oil pressure when you start the car, be sure to consult your mechanic before driving it.
