The greatly anticipated first annual Del Mar Concours d'Elegance was held on October 17th, 2010 at one of the world's most beautiful locations, the Del Mar Fairgrounds and Racetrack along the Solana Beach coast, just north of San Diego, California. Despite light rainfall throughout the day, the event was a tremendous success. It was well attended, displaying automotive excellence from all over the greater San Diego area. 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I 3.8 OTS |

|
This Jaguar has recently completed a comprehensive and fully documented restoration to a Show/Driver level by Classic Showcase. It is a numbers matching example with a California black plate and comes with a Heritage Certificate of Authenticity. It has been restored to its original color combination of Opalescent Light Blue with Dark Blue interior and a Dark Blue cloth convertible top. The restoration of this vehicle to a Show/Driver level included the following: First, we fully disassembled and documented the vehicle. Then the body was stripped to bare metal, we metal worked the body and fit all body parts and chrome. We sealed, primer, painted the base coat, clear coat, color sanded and buffed all body panels individually off the car to perfection. We installed new rubber, seals, grommets and gaskets. All trim and brite work was replaced or re-plated. A new proper interior was custom made, fit, installed and includes leather sport seats and original wood steering wheel. The engine and transmission have been completely rebuilt. We rebuilt the carburetor, restored the radiator and gas tank. A new exhaust system was fabricated and installed. All mechanical components were gone through and brought back to exact factory specifications. We serviced, repaired or replaced the hydraulic system and suspension. The chassis was restored and other parts restored and refinished as needed. This is an ideal example for the Jaguar collector to add to their collection, drive, enjoy and compete in their favorite Concours.

1953 Jaguar XK-120 FHC |

|
This 1953 Jaguar XK120 FHC is a fabulous example to be restored to a Show/Driver level. It has previously received most of its nut and bolt correct and documents/receipts from all restoration work by Jaguar professionals, and Classic Showcase has purchased the car to see it through the completion of the restoration. In its previous restoration work the body was stripped to bare metal, metal worked, fit all body parts and chrome, sealed, primered, painted base coat, clear coat, color sanded and buffed. All mechanical systems and components were gone through and restored. Classic Showcase will check all prior mechanical work to ensure that the level of work and correctness to Jaguar factory specifications has been met or exceeded. All new rubber seals and grommets will be installed. All instruments will be restored, new stainless steel exhaust system installed, aluminum radiator and all brite work will be re-plated. Every year, millions of people drop billions of dollars in casinos looking to win the big jackpot. At Barrett-Jackson, car buyers will spend millions of dollars hoping to hit the jackpot by buying the car of their dreams or a collector car that will increase in value. So here are ten of my favorite cars from this week’s auction that will at least be cool for the lucky buyer that hits the auction block jackpot.

RM Auctions
Vintage Motor Cars of Hershey 2010
October 20, 2010
Of the 148 cars offered, 110 were without reserve and selling to the highest bidders. The estimates were low, encouraging the Hershey bargain-hunters. The cars were old: 67 were built before 1920, eleven before 1905 and therefore eligible for consideration to participate in the UK Veteran Car Club’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run – an endurance test that every car enthusiast should experience at least once in a lifetime.

- I am looking to purchase a Classic Jaguar for myself and my wife. What is the difference in the driver’s comfort in the seats between the early XKE’s and the late XKE’s?
Rich Erath Asked-Napa Valley, CA
|
Tom Says:
The early XKE has a Bale Seat that looks great but does not recline and is not real comfortable for larger people. The late series I seats are bigger and much more comfortable. Series II seats have a back that recline and in the late series II they have backs that recline and have head rests. Series III seats are even more comfortable then series II seats.
|
| |
Bob Leonard- San Diego, CA |
Tom Says:
Federal auto equipment and safety regulations came into effect in 1967 and they felt that the glare was too high and that it would distract on-coming traffic. Jaguar was no longer able to import any vehicles with covered headlights to the United States. The headlights were changed primarily to accommodate the American market.
|
|
- How do I purchase a Heritage Certificate for my Jaguar?
Joe West- Phoenix, AZ |
Tom Says:
If you are a member of a JCNA club, you can purchase them at a reduced price. If you go to the JCNA website, www.jcna.com, there is information there on how to purchase the certificate. You will need proof of ownership of the Jaguar and then you will need to fill out a form and send in your payment. Next, you will receive a proof to verify that your information matches the car and once they have the proof signed off, the original certificate will be mailed to you. |
| |
- Will the E-types appreciate in value next year as it will be the 50th anniversary for E-types?
Carl White- Florida |
Tom Says:
Yes, the E-type has made a significant impact in the sports car market and people all over are fascinated with the E-type. They are harder to find and the best examples are demanding the best prices in the market.

Maintaining Your Classic for the Winter Season
|
|
- Don't let the winter months cause unnecessary damage to your classic. If you plan to store your classic this winter, follow these simple precautions to keep your baby safe and happy.
1. Drain the petrol. If you do not, then add a few drops of additive so your gasoline in the tank will not break down or go bad and cause problems to the carburetors or fuel pump. Marvell Mystery Oil is an amazing product and you'll find it works wonders. To add oil to the gas, put a small amount into the cylinders.
2. Disconnect the battery. If it is very cold, remove the battery completely and place on a trickle charger.
3. Place your vehicle on jack stands. This will save your tires from getting a flat spot from sitting. If you don't have access to a stand then slightly over inflate the tires to compensate for the amount of time they won't be in use.
4. Make sure the car has plenty of anti-freeze.
5. Keep your classic in a dry environment; if possible a climate controlled one. Never store a car on the dirt. When wet it can cause rust. Always try to park your car on the pavement.
6. Finally, give her one last polish, put a car cover on, say your goodbye, and put her away until you are ready to take the scenic route again.
