A Perfect Day at the San Die​​​​g​o Jaguar Club Concours

SAN DIEGO CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE

The day began early at Classic Showcase as our team prepared Tom ’s 1950 Jaguar XK-120 Alloy Roadster for the journey south to San Diego for the annual Concours. After loading the Jaguar up and setting out on Interstate 5, the team soon arrived at Spanish Landing Park West for the San Diego Jaguar Club’s 62nd Annual Concours d’Elegance.

The team soon got to unloading the XK-120, and completing its final prep, making sure it was all ready to go when the rags went down and the judging began. In its 62nd year. the JCNA-sanctioned concours welcomed 40 Jaguars to the club’s new waterfront location – which was south of last year’s event. Rows of Jaguars glistening in the sun were displayed against a picturesque backdrop of sailboats, yachts, and the nearby Marina, creating one of our favorite regional scenes that is almost the essence of San Diego - and one that continues to be especially fitting setting for a celebration of all things Jaguar!

ON THE CONCOURS FIELD

Although intimate in size, the field presented an impressively diverse cross-section of Jaguar history. Early postwar saloons and classic XK sports cars shared the lawn with several generations of E-Type, later XJS models, modern grand tourers, and contemporary F-Type sports cars. The variety offered visitors a colorful look at Jaguar’s evolving approach to performance, luxury, and design across more than seven decades.

Participants arrived from throughout Southern California, and throughout the morning, teams of certified JCNA judges moved carefully through the field, examining engine compartments, interiors, body finishes, fittings, and other details of authenticity and presentation. Bonnets, doors, and boots were opened for inspection as owners stood by to answer questions and provide documentation.

Tom's XK-120 competed in the Champion Division’s C2/120 class. Following its final preparation beside the marina, the meticulously restored Alloy Roadster underwent the close inspection required in JCNA concours competition. Its distinctive early construction, graceful bodywork, and exceptional presentation earned a flawless score of 100.000 points and first place in its class.

A REMARKABLE RESULT

The XK-120’s outstanding performance also earned it a share of the event’s highest honor. Tom's Alloy Roadster was named co-Best in Show alongside Dave Putnam’s beautifully presented 1950 Jaguar Mark V Sedan, which also received a perfect score. Together, the two very different 1950 Jaguars offered an exceptional representation of the marque’s sporting and luxury heritage.

Tom remained busy throughout the concours, serving not only as an entrant but also as a certified JCNA judge in the Modified class. Working alongside the other members of the judging team, he helped conduct the detailed inspections that are central to JCNA competition. His participation on both sides of the judging field reflected his longtime involvement with Jaguar concours events and his extensive experience restoring and evaluating the marque.

The San Diego victory marked the XK-120 Alloy Roadster’s third perfect 100-point performance of the 2026 concours season, adding another significant achievement to its record as a JCNA National Champion. Following a rewarding day along San Diego Bay, the team carefully loaded the XK-120 for the journey home, bringing a memorable concours outing to a successful conclusion.
