1958 JAGUAR XX-150S

Client Restoration Update

Mobirise

A long time Jaguar collector and customer of ours had purchased and commissioned us to restore a 1958 Jaguar XK-150S Roadster for him. Being that this is a very early car, built May 12th, 1958 after the prototype models, these cars do not feature the “S” on the door like the later models.

Our client was specific on the color combination, and he decided to have it painted a deep ebony black with a rich tan interior. Other than the color combination being changed to his preference, the rest of the car is built to JCNA standards of concours correctness.

The team at Classic Showcase is passionately crafting this car to perfection. The car is expected to be completed by early to mid-summer so our next newsletter should show it completed. This XK-150S’s history included being raced, and it comes with some programs

and a very thick binder of documentation from birth until present. It will be campaigned in several shows, and then will make its way home to its very proud owner where it will join a bevvy of assorted classics all garbed in black as well.

Other features and component that made this unique

1

The first closed and convertible XK 150s were slower than their predecessors. After a twelve-month delay caused by a February 1957 factory fire, this deficit was corrected in  1958 with the March release of special equipment models fitted with disc brakes and more powerful SE engine.

2

Twin 1.75-inch (44 mm) SU HD6 carburetors; A modified B type cylinder head with larger exhaust valves improved performance to 210 SAE bhp at 5500 rpm.

3

While most export cars were SE models, a third option for the open two-seater featured an "S" engine with three 2-inch (51 mm) SU HD8 carburetors and a straight-port cylinder head boosting power to a claimed 250 SAE bhp.

More features on the Roadster:

1

Equipped with Overdrive Transmission

2

The roadster without full weather equipment which had begun the XK line was launched as the XK-150 OTS (open two-seater) in 1958.

3

The open two-seater was fitted for the first time with wind-up windows in taller
high-silled doors but retained the very simple folding roof of its predecessors.
