Our collector client purchased this 1965 Jaguar Series 1 XKE OTS from us to restore it and make it a show car. He selected this car because of the original color combination of Red and Black, as that is the color combo he has chosen for most of the cars in his fabulous collection. This particular car had an interesting history as well - also a deciding factor for selecting this core car as a candidate for his show car restoration. Keeping the car original was our client’s main goal, while maintaining a high-level build. There are just a few modifications in the build of this car, but it does contain numerous improvements for driving in hot weather conditions where this car will live. One of the improvements is a new aluminum radiator -- but painted black. The collector also purchased and sent us a period correct Blaupunkt stereo that was converted to digital operation with Bluetooth capability.
A 5-speed gearbox was also chosen, as well as a gear reduction starter, and an auxiliary fan mounted on the inside of the radiator for better cooling and insulation under the carpet for sound deadening and heat reduction. We also installed a period correct Lucas tar-top battery, and a set of 185/15, 5-inch wide stock sized Tires on a set of new Dunlop wire wheels.
This roadster is very close to final assembly, then we will sort out, fine-tune, and drive it for 100+ test miles; when we complete that setup, it will then be delivered to the customer, just in time for the upcoming Fall 2020 show circuit! The first event scheduled for the XKE is the Keels and Wheels Concours in Houston, Texas during the weekend of October 17-18, 2020. Stayed tuned to our Fall Newsletter for an update on this fiery Red and Black E-Type roadster!
