One of our clients located, inspected, and purchased this early 1962 E-Type Series 1 roadster with the intent of restoring the car. He started the project himself, then worked in conjunction with other restoration companies for several years; however, he started running into numerous issues and problems that he felt required a greater level of expertise and as such, contacted us about taking on the project. We met with the client, and after being satisfied with our facility he commissioned our team to work on the project. We gladly accepted and started analyzing the car and generated an itemized breakdown of items needed to correct issues and improve it to a higher level. One of the problems we found is that the XKE’s engine had numerous internal issues and needed to be rebuilt for a second time. We reported our initial findings to the client, and he was appreciative of our timeliness in relaying what had to be done with the car. He approved, and our team quickly got to work.
We started with removing the bonnet, then the interior, then disconnected all systems, removed the exhaust system, carbs, and front suspension. We then disconnected the drive shaft, and removed the engine, transmission, and bell housing from the motor. Afterward, all of the motor issues were addressed and corrected. We then installed it on our test station, ran it several times over the course of a few days, and determined everything was working properly. We then installed the engine back into the car, and started test driving it. We inspected it after each run to ensure that everything was properly setup and operating properly.
