Every so often, a Jaguar arrives at our facility with a story that feels more like a chapter from an automotive novel than a simple ownership record. This 1967 Jaguar E-Type 2+2 is one of those rare cars whose history and preservation make you pause, appreciate, and look closer. Originally sold new in France, this E-Type was delivered with the subtle but distinctive features unique to European-market Jaguars, including amber lenses, a kilometer speedometer, and other regional details that set it apart from American-delivery cars. Its first owner later brought the car with him to Southern California, where it quietly became part of his life for nearly five decades. Through changing trends and the passing of time, the E-Type stayed with him and retained its originality and character.
By the time our team acquired the Jaguar, it had long been resting in
careful storage at the original owner’s home. What we found was a
remarkably untouched, numbers-matching example that still wore its
factory color combination of Silver Blue over Dark Blue. Its
authenticity made it an ideal candidate for the type of full restoration
work our shop is known for. We approached the project with respect for
the car’s history, while preparing it for the next chapter of its life.
The E-Type underwent a complete rotisserie restoration that began with a
detailed evaluation and photographic documentation of its original
condition. The body was stripped to bare metal, revealing the sound
structure that had been preserved through decades of careful ownership.
From there, our metal craftsmen performed extensive panel finishing and
lead work. Every piece of trim and chrome was test-fitted prior to the
final primer, sealer, basecoat, and clearcoat. The XKE now wears its
original Silver Blue once again, presented to concours standards as
documented by its JDHT certificate.
Mechanically, every system received the same level of attention. The
matching-numbers 4.2 liter engine was fully rebuilt with new pistons,
bearings, valves, timing components, restored carburetors, and complete
machine work. The transmission, braking, cooling, hydraulic, suspension,
electrical, and fuel systems were rebuilt or replaced. A new wiring
harness, rebuilt gauges and switches, new exhaust, restored brightwork,
new glass, and a custom-tailored Dark Blue interior crafted by our
master trimmer completed the transformation. What began as a
long-slumbering European treasure has emerged as a show-driver that
reflects both its heritage and the level of detail that defines our
restorations.
The Jaguar is now undergoing its final test miles and
mechanical sorting as we fine-tune its performance and drivability. When
complete, this rare French-delivery E-Type 2+2 will be equally at home
on the concours lawn, on a spirited coastal drive, or as a highlight
within a discerning collection.
For now, we are proud to share this remarkable Jaguar’s story, a piece
of European Jaguar history restored in Southern California and ready for
its next steward.
