1963 Austin-Healey 3000 MKII Client Restoration

Bodywork & Panel Fit progress continues...

Work continues on this 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II, a restoration project being undertaken for a longtime client who previously entrusted our team with the restoration of his 1959 MGA. While much of the mechanical rebuilding and component restoration has progressed behind the scenes, recent efforts have focused heavily on the body structure and panel fitment, areas that are critical to achieving a high-quality finished result.

As with many British sports cars that have seen decades of use, ownership changes, repairs, and restoration work over the course of their lives, uncovering and correcting previous modifications is often a significant part of the process. Our team has continued the careful task of returning the Healey's body structure to proper specification by addressing prior repairs, removing damaged metal where necessary, and fabricating and welding in new sheet metal to ensure correct fit, strength, and alignment throughout the vehicle....

With the body in bare metal, considerable attention has been devoted to refining panel gaps and test-fitting trim components before final finishing begins. Chrome pieces, rubber seals, and related components are being carefully fitted and adjusted during this stage to ensure the highest possible level of fit and finish once paint is applied. While much of this work is time-consuming and often hidden from view after completion, it plays a major role in determining the overall quality of the finished automobile.

The owner's vision remains unchanged: to create a beautifully restored Healey Blue Austin-Healey that retains its original character while benefiting from carefully selected upgrades that enhance drivability, reliability, and long-term enjoyment. As progress continues, the Healey is steadily moving closer to becoming a highly sorted show-driver level example that will be enjoyed on the road, at club events, and throughout Southern California's vibrant British car community.

MECHANICAL WORK IN PROGRESS

Building a Healey for the Road Ahead

This Austin-Healey continues to be restored with the intention of being driven and enjoyed. The owner plans to participate in local Austin-Healey and MG club activities, attend automotive events, and enjoy the car on the road as it was originally intended. As work progresses, the Healey is steadily moving closer to becoming a highly sorted and capable touring car that balances originality, reliability, and driving enjoyment. Once completed, the Healey will join the owner's beautifully restored 1959 MGA as part of a thoughtfully developed collection of classic British sports cars. The project remains an excellent example of the collaborative vision between owner and restoration team, combining careful craftsmanship with a focus on long-term enjoyment behind the wheel.
