A CLASSIC SHOWCASE CLIENT RESTORATION
This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Roadster is an original, rust-free, numbers-matching car from Southern California. Its previous owner, an expert machinist and avid car collector, had a deep passion for power and performance. Known for building engines for some of the most renowned restoration companies in the country, he aimed to transform his E-Type into a formidable rival to Jaguar’s legendary Group 44 XJR-5 race car.
To achieve this, he meticulously selected a range of performance-focused upgrades for his XKE, including custom-designed and fabricated pistons, Weber carburetors, electronic ignition, a custom charging system, an alloy radiator, an air conditioning system, stainless steel headers, and a free-flow exhaust system. Sadly, he passed away before he could complete his dream project. However, his family ensured that the car would be placed in the right hands, ultimately selecting our team at Classic Showcase to carry on his vision...
Upon acquiring the car, we immediately began the restoration process, building on the remarkable foundation the original owner had laid. His daughter, who serves as the executor of his estate, contacted us after hearing from the Jaguar community about our strong reputation for handling special builds. We were truly honored to be entrusted with this unique XKE, and once the restoration is complete, we plan to reach out to her with photos and invite her to see the finished E-Type.
Among the performance upgrades, the car features custom high-compression billet aluminum pistons, machined to match the specifications of the Group 44 Jaguar V12 pistons from the 1970s. Porsche 944 turbo connecting rod bolts were selected for their superior strength over stock bolts, while the engine’s compression ratio was increased using custom-thickness composite head gaskets. Additionally, six Weber 40 IDF down-draft carburetors with custom throttle linkage and aluminum port-matched intake manifolds enhance the engine’s power. Other upgrades include custom stainless steel headers and collectors, a machined lightweight flywheel, a cylindrical hydraulic clutch throw-out bearing, electronic ignition, and a Centerforce clutch.
To further enhance performance and reliability, all factory smog equipment was removed, and the car was fitted with an aluminum radiator, a gear reduction starter, and a new stainless steel exhaust system featuring four-tip resonators. We also made several improvements to the factory air conditioning system, converted the headlights to a covered style, and added smaller over-riders for a sleeker, more refined appearance. For modern convenience, we installed a Retrosound digital stereo system with additional speakers.
We are happy to announce that the XKE was sold earlier in the Summer to an established collector, and he has chosen a striking Red color for the interior that will pair nicely with a British Everflex top. The car will come with two boots – one in Green and the other in Red, with many other luxurious features and accessories to be added. Once completed, the collector plans to drive as well as campaign the XKE at numerous esteemed events. Stay tuned for the conclusion of this special XKE Roadster in our Winter 2024 Newsletter!
