In our previous newsletter, we introduced the restoration of this rare 1950 Jaguar XK-120 Alloy Roadster, one of the earliest and most historically significant models in Jaguar’s postwar history. Today, that restoration has been completed, with the car now entering its final sorting phase as it prepares for the upcoming concours season.
From the outset, the objective was clear. This would not be a reinterpretation, but a careful preservation and refinement of one of Jaguar’s most important early cars. With its strong mechanical foundation intact, the focus remained on elevating the body, interior, and brightwork while maintaining the originality that defines Alloy-bodied XK-120s.
Preservation Through Craftsmanship
Restoring an Alloy-bodied XK-120 requires a distinct approach. Unlike later steel-bodied cars, each panel was originally shaped by hand, and preserving those forms demands both restraint and precision. Throughout the process, our team worked to retain the character of the original coachwork while refining the car’s presentation to a high show-level standard.
Interior materials, finishes, and detailing were carefully addressed with an emphasis on period correctness. Brightwork was restored to complement the car’s original design, resulting in a cohesive and historically accurate presentation. The goal at every stage was to enhance, rather than alter, the qualities that make this early XK-120 so special.
Final Sorting and Preparation
With restoration complete, the roadster is now undergoing final sorting and road testing. This phase allows the team to fine-tune systems, ensure proper operation, and prepare the car for both display and light driving.
As the car moves through this stage, it is also being prepared for concours presentation, where its originality, craftsmanship, and documented history will be evaluated at the highest level. Cars of this caliber require not only restoration, but careful preparation to meet the expectations of top-tier judging.
The Next Chapter
This Alloy-bodied XK-120 now enters a new phase of its life, one focused on presentation, preservation, and continued recognition within the collector community. With its restoration complete and its historical integrity intact, the roadster stands as a significant example of Jaguar’s earliest postwar achievement.
As it appears on the concours field in the coming season, this XK-120 will represent not only the origins of Jaguar’s sporting legacy, but also the level of care and craftsmanship required to preserve it for future generations.
