History

Because of the 911/912 body's slightly better aerodynamics, ninety horsepower was sufficient to propel the 2,190 pond 912 to 115 miles per hour, which was marginally better than the 356sc, even with its five more horsepower. The 912 weighed 220 pounds less then the comparable 911, and weight distribution improved from 41/59 of the 911 to 44/56 for the 912. The 912 had many of the same comforts and all of the safety, features of the 911, including three-speed wipers, windshield washer, rear window defroster, back up light and reclining seats. Improvements came steadily and in 1966 the track was widened. Throughout the years the 912 was almost indistinguishable from the 911 and perfect for the person who wanted the 911 without the high price and was willing to compromise on the high performance.
