Description

(SOLD) Classic Showcase is pleased to present this simply beautiful and professionally restored 1958 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia ‘Lowlight’ Coupe to collectors looking for an early, exceptional Ghia example.

The Ghia was painted in Bamboo with a Dark Green roof and presents wonderfully. The exterior’s look is fully complimented with a set of 15-inch steel wheels that have been painted in the VW’s body color on the outer rim, while the inner disks are finished in White; in addition, there are bumpers with overriders, and chrome-finished VW-logo covers that are fitted with vintage-style Royalton whitewall tires to complete the look.

On the inside, the Ghia’s interior features a period-correct Bendix Sapphire 1 radio, and its seats have been trimmed in Beige vinyl (with White piping) and Green corduroy inserts, pleated door pockets, as well as color-coordinated door panels and carpeting, creating a uniquely stunning look. Also of note is the Ghia’s steel dashboard, which includes a passenger grab handle, and VDO instrumentation with a 90-mph speedometer, fuel gauge, and an analog Clock.

Under the hood, the Ghia features a strong, and professionally rebuilt 1.2 liter, 4 cylinder engine, joined with a 4-speed manual transmission. The Ghia also features a single Solex carburetor, and a ‘pea shooter’ exhaust system. Our team has scheduled a Spring 2022 full service and detail to the Volkswagen. This 1958 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia presents the serious Volkswagen collector with an opportunity to own an exceptional example that is ready for the show field, or to collect as an investment that is sure to appreciate!

History

Built between 1955-1959, ‘lowlight’ models feature a more curved front fender profile along with a lower headlight position and unique treatments for the front grilles and taillights. The front compartment houses a matching spare wheel and tire as well as jacking equipment. The fuel tank is finished in body color and is mounted ahead of a lined storage area. The body-colored steel dashboard is equipped with a passenger grab handle and houses VDO instrumentation consisting of a 90-mph speedometer, a fuel-level gauge, and an analog clock. The five-digit odometer shows 161 miles, and total mileage is unknown. The 1.2-liter flat-four is equipped with a single Solex carburetor and was rated at 36 horsepower when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle.
