Description

This 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 Roadster has remained in the care of a single California family for the past 50 years, having been purchased from the original owner half a century ago! The XKE previously served as a commuter vehicle for a one of the owners family members who worked at various naval medical facilities in San Diego - as evidenced by the well-preserved parking permit stickers on the front bumpers of the E-Type. The roadster has spent decades in California and has been regularly serviced and thoughtfully upgraded by Classic Showcase over the past 5 to 6 years. With its low ownership history and well-documented care, the E-Type is finished in timeless Old English White with a Biscuit interior, matching soft top, and boot, and presents very nicely with a highly classic aesthetic.

The interior and convertible top boot have been completely refreshed by our master upholsterer using correct British materials. During the upholstery restoration, the seats, panels, and related components were restored and present very nicely. Mechanically, the E-Type has been carefully maintained and updated to ensure reliable performance.

Service highlights include:

• Complete undercarriage and vehicle pressure cleaning
• Refreshed factory air conditioning system
• Installation of a new electronic ignition system
• New front-end and engine wiring harnesses
• Stainless steel exhaust system
• Replacement of ball joints, lower shock bushings, and front A-arm bushings
• Replacement of gearbox mounts, heater valve, and heater resistor
• New brake bottle switch
• Full service of the cooling, hydraulic, and electrical systems

As part of the cooling system service, we installed new hoses, flushed the radiator, and added fresh antifreeze. We also performed an oil change with a new oil filter and lubrication. The hydraulic system was flushed and refilled with new brake fluid. Additional mechanical improvements were made as needed to ensure smooth running and driving condition. All service receipts from Classic Showcase will be included with the sale This Series 3 E-Type offers an ideal blend of iconic Jaguar styling and dependable performance—just in time to enjoy open-air motoring for the Spring and Summer seasons ahead!

History

Launched in 1961 at the international motor show in Geneva, the E-type, or XKE, echoed the sensation of the XK-120, perhaps even more. An astonishing performance package, with amazing speed and handling, the XKE’s brand new 4-wheel independent suspension system was so well conceived, it was used by Jaguar for over thirty years. In 1971, a new 5.3 liter 12-cylinder Jaguar V-12 engine was introduced, with upgraded brakes and standard power steering and was available only as a convertible and a 2+2 coupe. This is the second to last year that Jaguar produced the E-type.
