Description
We are pleased to offer this beautifully preserved 2001 Jaguar XJR 4.0-liter V8 Sedan, finished in a rare and highly desirable color combination, and showing the hallmarks of very limited ownership throughout its life. This XJR has been exceptionally well cared for and has spent virtually all of its life in California. We previously purchased this example from it's first owner and campaigned the car in the mid-2000s, where it achieved 99 point scores in JCNA competition, and the scoresheets accompany the XJR. We later passed ownership on to it's current owner, who has enjoyed it while keeping it meticulously maintained. It has been garage-kept, regularly serviced, and documented over the years, and stands as one of the finest XJR examples we have ever seen!
Inside, the cabin is richly appointed with burl walnut trim, heated front and rear seats, a 3-position memory system, remote entry and drive-away locking, an anti-theft immobilizer, automatic on/off headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and Jaguar’s premium 320W Alpine audio system with 6-disc CD player. This particular example also features the factory optional Navigation System, D&P front and side airbags, rear child-seat anchorages, and a full complement of factory equipment.
The Jaguar is offered with its books, tools, new spare, two sets of keys and remotes, and a clean Carfax showing no reported issues or accidents. If you’re seeking a well-preserved, limited-ownership XJR with an excellent history, striking colors, and outstanding drivability, this example represents an exceptional opportunity.
History
Introduced for the 1998 model year, the X308-generation XJR was Jaguar’s flagship high-performance sedan, combining traditional XJ luxury with a new all-aluminum 4.0-liter AJ-V8 engine. In XJR form this V8 received an Eaton supercharger and intercooling, producing about 370 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque, delivered through a 5-speed automatic transmission. Performance was impressive for a full-size luxury sedan, with contemporary road tests noting 0–60 mph in the mid-5-second range and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. The XJR was visually distinguished from standard XJ8 models by its mesh grille, discreet body-color trim, larger alloy wheels, and lower, sport-tuned stance. Inside, it retained the classic XJ cabin treatment of leather upholstery and hand-finished burl walnut, but added deeply bolstered sport seats and model-specific trim details. Underneath, Jaguar’s Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) continuously adjusted damping for a balance of supple ride and sharp handling, reinforcing the XJR’s “muscle car in a tuxedo” reputation in period reviews. Built from 1998–2003, the X308 XJR has since become sought after as the last steel-bodied XJ and the first supercharged V8 performance saloon of the modern Jaguar era.
