The 1986 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas offers the comfort, refinement, and appointments that made these models among the finest luxury sedans of their era. Finished in elegant Antelope Metallic over a beautifully appointed Doeskin leather interior, this example is powered by Jaguar's 4.2-liter fuel-injected inline six-cylinder engine paired with a smooth 3-speed automatic transmission with floor shift. The odometer shows 99,352 original miles, while the replacement engine is reported to have approximately 55,000 miles. As part of a comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical freshening, our team refinished the entire car in its original Antelope Metallic color, restoring the exterior presentation while retaining its classic factory appearance. New windshield and rear-window rubber were also installed as part of the work.

The spacious Vanden Plas interior comfortably seats five and features premium leather seating, thicker carpeting, rich wood trim throughout the cabin, climate-control air conditioning, trip computer, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, power mirrors, electric sunroof, and a four-speaker Pioneer DEH-2200UBB stereo with USB connectivity. Additional highlights include the classic Jaguar Leaper hood ornament, original dual-exhaust system, wood trim on the doors, power seat adjustments, and the extensive comfort and convenience equipment expected of Jaguar's Vanden Plas specification.

Our upholstery department completed a number of interior improvements, including the installation of a new headliner, reupholstering the driver's seat, fitting and adjusting the remaining seats, refinishing the wood trim on the console and glove box, and shampooing the carpeting. Mechanically, the Jaguar received a complete engine service and fluid changes, along with a new A/C compressor and conversion from R12 Freon to R134a refrigerant. The engine bay and undercarriage were also cleaned, detailed, and refinished as needed, while additional cosmetic attention was given throughout the car to further enhance its overall presentation.

With this restorative work now complete, the XJ6 Vanden Plas presents as a well-sorted and attractive example of Jaguar's classic luxury sedan. History

In late 1979 the XJ was face lifted again, and was known as the "Series III."Using the long-wheelbase version of the car, the XJ6 incorporated a subtle redesign by Pininfarina. Externally, the most obvious changes over the SII were the thicker and more incorporated rubber bumpers with decorative chrome only on the top edge, flush door handles for increased safety, a one-piece front door glass without a separate 1/4 light, a grille with only vertical vanes, reverse lights moved from the boot plinth to the larger rear light clusters and a revised roofline with shallower glass area. There were three engine variants, including the 5.3L V12, the 4.2L straight 6 and 3.4L straight 6. The larger 6-cylinder, and V12 models incorporated Bosch fuel injection (made under license by Lucas) while the smaller 6-cylinder was carbureted. The smaller 3.4L 6-cylinder engine was not offered in the U.S. The short-wheelbase saloon and coupé had been dropped during the final years of the Series II XJ. The introduction of the Series III model also saw the option of a sunroof and cruise control for the first time on an XJ model.
